On September 16, 2001, the Priest Seminary
in Hamburg begins its work.
The international city of Hamburg offers much as a business and
Universtiy city for a contemporary education: Cultural and ethnic
diversity, burning social issues
and various congregations
of the Christian Community.
The study lasts 3 years and includes shorter
and longer practicums (in communities, schools, hospitals, retirement
homes, in the Hospice movement, etc.).
Afterwards, in preparation for the Sacrament
of Ordination, a six months final study period with other
students of other campuses of the Christian Community priest training
may follow.
Independent learning is encouraged through courses,
seminars, problem and project oriented learning. The individual
study areas, both in content and method, complement and intensify
each other:
- Christology,
Sacramental Studies, Liturgy, Old and New Testament, Church History
and the Evolution of Consciousness, Modern Theology, World Religion,
and Religious Instruction.
- Foundations
of Anthroposophy, Philosophy, scientific-Goetheanistic courses
such as Geography, Geology, Botany, the study of Palestine, Medical
Anthropology, Psychology and Pathology.
- Community
building and development, legal and managerial matters, children´s
and youth work, counselling, biography work, exercises for the
development of self-knowledge, collaboration and cooperation,
conflict solving skills.
Speech, Eurythmy, Music, Fine Arts, Pentathlon, Bothmer Gymnastics.
The training encourages the attainment of a deeper
knowledge of religious experience as well as social competence. The
development of the individual mirrored by community, cooperation between
students and teachers in the social realm are essential elements of
the education. The common goal is to learn how to regard life and
live in a priestly way.
The seminary will be financed by contributions
from students and from donations. Students will be responsible for
the founding and management of a scholarship fund.
Rooms are available for seminary work in an
office-building owned by the Christian Community and in the immediate
neighbourhood (Johannes Church, Johnsallee 17). Students will live
in the surrounding area. We shall be pleased to help students locate
rooms or apartments.
We plan to eat breakfast and lunch together.
Lessons will be given in German, although help in English is available.
If you are interested in the training, please
